General

Sri Harmandir Sahib is considered holy by Sikhs. The most holy text of Sikhism, the Guru Granth Sahib, is always present inside the Gurdwara. Its construction was mainly intended to build a place of worship for men and women from all walks of life and all religions to come and worship God equally. Over one lakh (100,000) people visit the holy shrine daily for worship.

Famous quotes containing the word general:

They make a great ado nowadays about hard times; but I think that ... this general failure, both private and public, is rather occasion for rejoicing, as reminding us whom we have at the helm,—that justice is always done. If our merchants did not most of them fail, and the banks too, my faith in the old laws of the world would be staggered.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

What is written without effort is in general read without pleasure.
    Samuel Johnson (1709–1784)

That sort of half sigh, which, accompanied by two or three slight nods of the head, is pity’s small change in general society.
    Charles Dickens (1812–1870)
