Notable Former Players
The best player who played for the club is undoubtedly Barry Leibowitz. Hailing from the ABA team of the New Jersey Nets, Leibowitz is considered one of the best players ever in Israeli basketball. Without a doubt, the most beloved foreign player in Hapoel Tel Aviv history was Mike Largey. In the history of the Israel Basketball League he was the first foreigner to be named team captain. Another admired player by the club's fans is Shimon Amsalem, who played for the club during its glory days of the 1980s and the ill-fated years of the 1990s. He was known for his fighting spirit as well as his love for the fans and the club. Clearly another fan favorite was Kenny Labanowski, the 6'8" forward arrived in 1981, and was a fierce competitor, known for his fighting spirit and rebounding.

Famous quotes containing the words notable and/or players:
“Every notable advance in technique or organization has to be paid for, and in most cases the debit is more or less equivalent to the credit. Except of course when its more than equivalent, as it has been with universal education, for example, or wireless, or these damned aeroplanes. In which case, of course, your progress is a step backwards and downwards.”
—Aldous Huxley (18941963)
“The whole idea of image is so confused. On the one hand, Madison Avenue is worried about the image of the players in a tennis tour. On the other hand, sports events are often sponsored by the makers of junk food, beer, and cigarettes. Whats the message when an athlete who works at keeping her body fit is sponsored by a sugar-filled snack that does more harm than good?”
—Martina Navratilova (b. 1956)
