Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen Song)

Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen Song)

"Hallelujah" is a song written by Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen, originally released on his studio album Various Positions (1984). Achieving little initial success, the song found greater popular acclaim through a cover by John Cale, which later formed the basis for a cover by Jeff Buckley. Many cover versions have been performed by a large number and broad range of artists, both in recordings and in concert, with over 300 versions known. The song has also seen significant use in film and television soundtracks, as well as televised talent contests. It is often cited as one of the greatest songs of all time.

Famous quotes containing the words hallelujah and/or cohen:

Heaven has a Sea of Glass on which angels go sliding every afternoon. There are many golden streets, but the principal thoroughfares are Amen Street and Hallelujah Avenue, which intersect in front of the Throne. These streets play tunes when walked on, and all shoes have songs in them.

The middle years are ones in which children increasingly face conflicts on their own,... One of the truths to be faced by parents during this period is that they cannot do the work of living and relating for their children. They can be sounding boards and they can probe with the children the consequences of alternative actions.
