Gwynedd Mercy Academy Elementary - Academics

Academics

The student body of the Elementary Division is composed of approximately 470 boys and girls from kindergarten through grade 8. The faculty includes Sisters of Mercy and lay faculty members. In 2007, Gwynedd-Mercy Academy was named a Nationally Recognized Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. Academic excellence is achieved through continuous curriculum development, ongoing teacher training and differentiated instruction. Beyond the curriculum, there are many opportunities for students to excel in areas of special interest. Gwynedd-Mercy Academy sponsors a Mathlete Team, an annual Science Fair, Reading Olympics teams, and the National Junior Honor Society. In a testament to academic excellence, over the last five years, 20% of 8th grade graduates have been awarded academic scholarships to prestigious private high schools.

Famous quotes containing the word academics:

Our first line of defense in raising children with values is modeling good behavior ourselves. This is critical. How will our kids learn tolerance for others if our hearts are filled with hate? Learn compassion if we are indifferent? Perceive academics as important if soccer practice is a higher priority than homework?
    Fred G. Gosman (20th century)

Almost all scholarly research carries practical and political implications. Better that we should spell these out ourselves than leave that task to people with a vested interest in stressing only some of the implications and falsifying others. The idea that academics should remain “above the fray” only gives ideologues license to misuse our work.
    Stephanie Coontz (b. 1944)
