GIST was established by the South Korean government in 1993 as a research-oriented graduate school that focuses on technology and education. Despite its relative small size, since its establishment, GIST has advanced from an unknown graduate school in South Korea to one of nation's most prestigious schools, ranking first in the number of publication per professor in 2005. Famous quotes containing the word history:

    The custard is setting; meanwhile
I not only have my own history to worry about
But am forced to fret over insufficient details related to large
Unfinished concepts that can never bring themselves to the point
Of being, with or without my help, if any were forthcoming.
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)

A poet’s object is not to tell what actually happened but what could or would happen either probably or inevitably.... For this reason poetry is something more scientific and serious than history, because poetry tends to give general truths while history gives particular facts.
    Aristotle (384–323 B.C.)

False history gets made all day, any day,
the truth of the new is never on the news
False history gets written every day
    ...
    the lesbian archaeologist watches herself
sifting her own life out from the shards she’s piecing,
asking the clay all questions but her own.
    Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)
