Famous quotes containing the words gunpowder, falls, state and/or park:

Genius as an explosive power beats gunpowder hollow; and if knowledge, which should give that power guidance, is wanting, the chances are not small that the rocket will simply run amuck among friends and foes.
    Thomas Henry Huxley (1825–95)

To get into just those situations where sham virtues will not suffice, but rather where, as with the ropedancer on his rope, one either falls or stands—or gets down.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)

A State in the grip of neo-colonialism is not master of its own destiny. It is this factor which makes neo- colonialism such a serious threat to world peace.
    Kwame Nkrumah (1900–1972)

Linnæus, setting out for Lapland, surveys his “comb” and “spare shirt,” “leathern breeches” and “gauze cap to keep off gnats,” with as much complacency as Bonaparte a park of artillery for the Russian campaign. The quiet bravery of the man is admirable.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
