GSC Game World

GSC Game World is a Ukrainian video game developer. Founded in 1995 in Kiev, Ukraine, it released titles such as Cossacks: European Wars, American Conquest, Alexander, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat. In 2004, GSC Game World founded the publishing branch GSC World Publishing.

GSC Game World's most successful game series is S.T.A.L.K.E.R., a survival shooter that was in development for seven years, first released in March 2007. They are also known for the Cossacks series. Most of their titles are published in Europe by Cdv Software Entertainment.

GSC Game World is also the creator of the X-Ray Engine used in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series.

Following initial reports in 2011 stating that their upcoming project, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, had been cancelled, GSC tweeted a complete denial of the cancellation as well as denying rumours that the studio had closed its doors. However, they then deleted the tweet and later said an official comment would be made on 12 December 2011. They stated, "We will do our best to continue. However, at this moment, nothing is certain." On 23 December 2011 it was revealed that they are continuing to develop S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2.

As of April 25, 2012, GSC Game World is closed. The existing team formed a new company called Vostok Games.

On May 15, 2012, a Russian blog posted an interview with one of the executives of GSC Game World. He revealed that GSC is not closed and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. brand still belongs to GSC. On the same day, during a live interview it was revealed that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is put on indefinite hold until the head of GSC finds a new developer team and investors.

Famous quotes containing the words game and/or world:

The savage soul of game is up at once—
The pack full-opening various, the shrill horn
Resounded from the hills, the neighing steed
Wild for the chase, and the loud hunter’s shout—
O’er a weak, harmless, flying creature, all
Mixed in mad tumult and discordant joy.
    James Thomson (1700–1748)

Let us, then, take our compass; we are something, and we are not everything. The nature of our existence hides from us the knowledge of first beginnings which are born of the nothing; and the littleness of our being conceals from us the sight of the infinite. Our intellect holds the same position in the world of thought as our body occupies in the expanse of nature.
    Blaise Pascal (1623–1662)
