Young is in a relationship with "glamorous" part-time model Kerry-Ann Booth, whom he met in Doncaster in 2003. By October 2007, by which time they had been together for four years, she had never seen Young lose a game while playing for Halifax and he commented "She is a good luck omen and I was telling (assistant manager) Peter Atherton about it the other day and he said we need to get her a season ticket". He studied for a degree in sport and exercise science at university while playing part-time for Altrincham.
