Greg Smith (New South Wales Politician) - Political Career

Political Career

In 2006, Smith received Liberal Party preselection over Pru Goward for the seat of Epping to replace retiring Liberal MP, Andrew Tink. Smith was elected as the Member for Epping at the 2007 state election.

Smith voiced his opposition to a relationships register, passed by the NSW parliament in May, 2010. The register gave recognition to unmarried couples, opposite-sex and same-sex couples. Smith said: "The passing of this bill will be another increment in the undermining and destruction of marriage and the traditional family." NSW Attorney-General John Hatzistergos said that Smith had previously objected to putting same-sex couples on the same level as heterosexual couples.

Following the 2011 state election, Smith was appointed Attorney General and Minister for Justice in the O'Farrell–Stoner coalition government.

All political parties die at last of swallowing their own lies.
    John Arbuthnot (1667–1735)

I began my editorial career with the presidency of Mr. Adams, and my principal object was to render his administration all the assistance in my power. I flattered myself with the hope of accompanying him through [his] voyage, and of partaking in a trifling degree, of the glory of the enterprise; but he suddenly tacked about, and I could follow him no longer. I therefore waited for the first opportunity to haul down my sails.
    William Cobbett (1762–1835)
