History
The Green Meadows Conference was formed as an athletic conference in 1962. The charter members of the conference were Ayersville, Fairview, Hicksville, Paulding and Jewell (now Tinora).
In 1966, Blue Creek, from Paulding County and now a part of the Wayne Trace School District, joined the conference. Then in 1967, Oakwood joined.
The conference stayed intact until 1972, when district consolidations in Paulding County caused some changes in the make-up of some member schools. Blue Creek became a part of the new Wayne Trace School District, along with Grover Hill and Payne. Oakwood became a part of the Paulding Exempted School System. Antwerp and Holgate also joined the league making the number of members eight.
Antwerp, Ayersville, Hicksville, Holgate, Fairview, Paulding, Tinora and Wayne Trace.
In 1974, Paulding left the GMC and joined the Northwest Conference. So in 1975 the league admitted Edgerton to the conference. The membership has been the same ever since.
Ayersville has traditionally been a football power in the conference. They won ten consecutive conference titles between 1985 and 1994. Fairview was a similar power in girl's basketball, having advanced to the state tournament repeatedly in the 1990s and having won the OHSAA Division III state championship in 1989. Holgate won the Division IV boys' basketball state championship in 2004. Wayne Trace won the Division III boys' basketball title in 1991 with Final 4 appearances in 1988, 2001, and 2008. They have won the conference title over 20 times. Tinora girls cross country consistently won the conference title through the 1990s and early 2000s.
Recently, Fairview and Tinora have emerged as football powers as well. Antwerp won the state volleyball championship in 1992, and has won the volleyball title the last two years and were the District Champs. Additionally, Wayne Trace and Fairview have been near the top of the conference in cross country for the past few years.
The Tinora boys' basketball team recently captured a State Runner-up trophy in Division III for the 2008–09 season.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“When the landscape buckles and jerks around, when a dust column of debris rises from the collapse of a block of buildings on bodies that could have been your own, when the staves of history fall awry and the barrel of time bursts apart, some turn to prayer, some to poetry: words in the memory, a stained book carried close to the body, the notebook scribbled by handa center of gravity.”
—Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)
“Considered in its entirety, psychoanalysis wont do. Its an end product, moreover, like a dinosaur or a zeppelin; no better theory can ever be erected on its ruins, which will remain for ever one of the saddest and strangest of all landmarks in the history of twentieth-century thought.”
—Peter B. Medawar (19151987)
“Every generation rewrites the past. In easy times history is more or less of an ornamental art, but in times of danger we are driven to the written record by a pressing need to find answers to the riddles of today.... In times of change and danger when there is a quicksand of fear under mens reasoning, a sense of continuity with generations gone before can stretch like a lifeline across the scary present and get us past that idiot delusion of the exceptional Now that blocks good thinking.”
—John Dos Passos (18961970)
