History and Format
The first Greek Cup took place during the 1975-76 season. From the 1994-95 to 2003-04 seasons, the Final Four format was used. The competition format in recent years includes a total of 46 teams; 14 from the HEBA A1, 16 from the HEBA A2, and 16 from the Greek B League.
The top 6 placed teams from the previous season of the HEBA A1 have an automatic bye to the quarterfinals, while the other 40 teams play in preliminary rounds for the other two quarterfinal places. The quarterfinal and onward rounds are played under a single elimination format.
