The other three statewide winners (Rob McCord for Treasurer, Jack Wagner for Auditor General, and Tom Corbett for Attorney General) also carried it. While Republicans have controlled the commissioner majority most of the time and continue to control most county row offices, Democrats have become more competitive in Berks in recent years. In the 2012 Presidential election, although Mitt Romney carried the county by approximately a one-percent margin, 49.7% to 48.7%.

Famous quotes containing the word politics:

Social history might be defined negatively as the history of a people with the politics left out.
    —G.M. (George Macaulay)

The politics of the exile are fever,
    revenge, daydream,
    theater of the aging convalescent.
You wait in the wings and rehearse.
    You wait and wait.
    Marge Piercy (b. 1936)

Our democracy, our culture, our whole way of life is a spectacular triumph of the blah. Why not have a political convention without politics to nominate a leader who’s out in front of nobody?... Maybe our national mindlessness is the very thing that keeps us from turning into one of those smelly European countries full of pseudo-reds and crypto-fascists and greens who dress like forest elves.
