History

Established in 1971, MacEwan University was named after Dr. J.W. Grant MacEwan, author, educator and former lieutenant governor of Alberta. MacEwan became an accredited degree-granting institution in 2004 and offers baccalaureate degrees in arts, child and youth care, commerce, nursing, science, communications and music. The institution expects to add additional degrees in the subject areas of social work and early learning education. Prior to the renaming, MacEwan was the largest college in Alberta, and it remains the largest transfer institution in the province. On September 24, 2009 it became Alberta's sixth university.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

A man acquainted with history may, in some respect, be said to have lived from the beginning of the world, and to have been making continual additions to his stock of knowledge in every century.
    David Hume (1711–1776)

When the landscape buckles and jerks around, when a dust column of debris rises from the collapse of a block of buildings on bodies that could have been your own, when the staves of history fall awry and the barrel of time bursts apart, some turn to prayer, some to poetry: words in the memory, a stained book carried close to the body, the notebook scribbled by hand—a center of gravity.
    Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)
