History
The site of the current Grand Indonesia was previously occupied by Hotel Indonesia and Hotel Inna Wisata. Hotel Indonesia was the first five star hotel in the archipelago, being the most prestigious hotel at the time it was built. The development of the building was initiated by the first Indonesian president, Soekarno, who was also an architect. Hotel Inna Wisata was built in 1970s as a midclass accommodation, located behind Hotel Indonesia. All of the buildings in the complex except the original Hotel Indonesia building were torn down to make way for Grand Indonesia.
