Gothenburg urban area (Göteborgs tätort) is the second largest of the 1,940 localities or urban areas in Sweden. As such it has no administrative or political significance, but is a geographical and statistical entity. The administration is carried out independently by the respective municipalities in which this multimunicipal locality is situated.
It is the seat of Gothenburg Municipality, Partille Municipality and Mölndal Municipality.
Gothenburg urban area stretches over four municipalities in Västra Götaland County. It had 549,839 inhabitants in 2010.
Famous quotes containing the words urban and/or area:
“Commercial jazz, soap opera, pulp fiction, comic strips, the movies set the images, mannerisms, standards, and aims of the urban masses. In one way or another, everyone is equal before these cultural machines; like technology itself, the mass media are nearly universal in their incidence and appeal. They are a kind of common denominator, a kind of scheme for pre-scheduled, mass emotions.”
—C. Wright Mills (191662)
“Many women are reluctant to allow men to enter their domain. They dont want men to acquire skills in what has traditionally been their area of competence and one of their main sources of self-esteem. So while they complain about the males unwillingness to share in domestic duties, they continually push the male out when he moves too confidently into what has previously been their exclusive world.”
—Bettina Arndt (20th century)
