Gorham's Cave - UNESCO World Heritage Site Nomination

UNESCO World Heritage Site Nomination

In November 2010, the Government of Gibraltar announced that Gorham's Cave would be put forward for potential nomination as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Professor Clive Finlayson, Director of the Gibraltar Museum, is responsible of co-ordinating the efforts to achieve such nomination. The first step has been the submission of a proposal to the United Kingdom cultural authorities in order to get Gorham's Cave added to the UK's World Heritage Tentative List. Such a list is revised every 10 years, and the process for a new list was ongoing at the date of the submission.

In May 2012 Gorham's Cave was, along with the Forth Rail Bridge, on the short list of two sites that have been forwarded for submission to UNESCO.

Famous quotes containing the words world, heritage, site and/or nomination:

But the world itself has no reason, and I can say so, I who have experienced it all, from the creation to the destruction.
    Albert Camus (1913–1960)

It seems to me that upbringings have themes. The parents set the theme, either explicitly or implicitly, and the children pick it up, sometimes accurately and sometimes not so accurately.... The theme may be “Our family has a distinguished heritage that you must live up to” or “No matter what happens, we are fortunate to be together in this lovely corner of the earth” or “We have worked hard so that you can have the opportunities we didn’t have.”
    Calvin Trillin (20th century)

The present hour is always wealthiest when it is poorer than the future ones, as that is the pleasantest site which affords the pleasantest prospects.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Do you know I believe that [William Jennings] Bryan will force his nomination on the Democrats again. I believe he will either do this by advocating Prohibition, or else he will run on a Prohibition platform independent of the Democrats. But you will see that the year before the election he will organize a mammoth lecture tour and will make Prohibition the leading note of every address.
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)
