Good Counsel College, Innisfail - School Spirit

School Spirit

The relatively small size and the focus on the school as a 'community' as pioneered by staff has established a notable sense of togetherness in the school. This is fostered by many whole school events such as:

  • Athletics Carnival
  • Swimming Carnival
  • Cross Country
  • Stations of the Cross demonstrations
  • Feast Day (incorporating a morning liturgy followed by fun activities at school such as dodgeball, music concerts, LANs and a slip and slide)
  • Walkathon (hosted by the Student Representative Council as a fund raiser)

There are also a large number of other events that are optional but attended by a significant portion the student body:

  • Themed discos
  • Lunchtime concerts
  • Lunchtime events such as 'Pizza Days' and 'Golf Days' as organised by the Student Representative Council at the time
  • ANZAC Commemorations

The events are generally looked forward to by students and act to establish relationships between students across year levels and with teachers whom students may not be in regular contact with.

Famous quotes containing the words school and/or spirit:

I am both a public and a private school boy myself, having always changed schools just as the class in English in the new school was taking up Silas Marner, with the result that it was the only book in the English language that I knew until I was eighteen—but, boy, did I know Silas Marner!
    Robert Benchley (1889–1945)

Successful socialism depends on the perfectibility of man. Unless all, or nearly all, men are high-minded and clear-sighted, it is bound to be a rotten failure in any but a physical sense. Even through it is altruism, socialism means materialism. You can guarantee the things of the body to every one, but you cannot guarantee the things of the spirit to every one; you can guarantee only that the opportunity to seek them shall not be denied to any one who chooses to seek them.
    Katharine Fullerton Gerould (1879–1944)
