Golden Square Railway Station

Golden Square is a closed station located in the southern Bendigo suburb of Golden Square, Victoria, Australia, on the Melbourne-Bendigo railway. The station is on Maple Street, off High Steet in Golden Square.

The station was one of 35 closed to passenger traffic on 4 October 1981 as part of the New Deal timetable for country passengers.

Since around 1990 the Melbourne bound station building has been leased by a local radio station, while the smaller down side building has been leased in the past. In April 2008 renovations were carried out to the down side building, including re-stumping and replacement of weatherboards.

Famous quotes containing the words golden, square, railway and/or station:

    Ah, Sun-flower, weary of time,
Who countest the steps of the Sun,
Seeking after that sweet golden clime
Where the traveller’s journey is done:
Where the Youth pined away with desire,
And the pale Virgin shrouded in snow
Arise from their graves, and aspire
Where my Sun-flower wishes to go.
    William Blake (1757–1827)

Mark you the floore? that square & speckled stone,
Which looks so firm and strong,
    Is Patience:
    George Herbert (1593–1633)

Her personality had an architectonic quality; I think of her when I see some of the great London railway termini, especially St. Pancras, with its soot and turrets, and she overshadowed her own daughters, whom she did not understand—my mother, who liked things to be nice; my dotty aunt. But my mother had not the strength to put even some physical distance between them, let alone keep the old monster at emotional arm’s length.
    Angela Carter (1940–1992)

...I believe it is now the duty of the slaves of the South to rebuke their masters for their robbery, oppression and crime.... No station or character can destroy individual responsibility, in the matter of reproving sin.
    Angelina Grimké (1805–1879)
