In Culture
In Sri Lanka this animal is called Pani uguduwa, Sapumal kalawaddha or Ranhothambuwa/Hotambuwa by the Sinhala speaking community. However, the term Hotambuwa is mostly used to refer altogether a different species Ruddy Mongoose (Herpestes smithii). Due to similar appearance and coloration, they are mistaken as the same animal.
The golden palm civet and Asian palm civet are sometimes collectively called kalawedda in Sinhala and maram nai in Tamil.
This civet appears in 3 rupee Sri Lankan postal stamp. However, it is named as 'Golden Palm Cat' in the stamp.

Famous quotes containing the word culture:
“He was one whose glory was an inner glory, one who placed culture above prosperity, fairness above profit, generosity above possessions, hospitality above comfort, courtesy above triumph, courage above safety, kindness above personal welfare, honor above success.”
—Sarah Patton Boyle, U.S. civil rights activist and author. The Desegregated Heart, part 1, ch. 1 (1962)
“Let a man attain the highest and broadest culture that any American has possessed, then let him die by sea-storm, railroad collision, or other accident, and all America will acquiesce that the best thing has happened to him; that, after the education has gone far, such is the expensiveness of America, that the best use to put a fine person to is to drown him to save his board.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
