McNary High School Awards
The Ken Collins Theater at McNary Senior High School in Keizer, Oregon also uses Golden Onions as an award. The Drama Department hand makes and spray paints real onions on bases gold. The onions are then awarded to various actors, technicians and crew of the year's productions. Some awards focus on funny or embarrassing actions but most of the awards are highly anticipated and are an honor to receive. The actors, technicians and crew of the year’s productions choose the recipients. Skits and entertainment pieces by students, some of which poke fun at the teacher, Dallas Myers, and the productions, usually punctuate the presentation of the awards. The Golden Onions production is run by technicians in training, as part of their technical theatre class. The department's Thespian Troupe helps with some of the after production work because the ceremonies and festivities go from 5:30 pm to 11:45 pm. The production is also a major fundraiser for the department; Ken Collins Theater is annually sold out for this production. On 2012 takes place the 15th annual Golden Onions.

Famous quotes containing the words high and/or school:
“Our domestic problems are for the most part economic. We have our enormous debt to pay, and we are paying it. We have the high cost of government to diminish, and we are diminishing it. We have a heavy burden of taxation to reduce, and we are reducing it. But while remarkable progress has been made in these directions, the work is yet far from accomplished.”
—Calvin Coolidge (18721933)
“The first rule of education for me was discipline. Discipline is the keynote to learning. Discipline has been the great factor in my life. I discipline myself to do everythinggetting up in the morning, walking, dancing, exercise. If you wont have discipline, you wont have a nation. We cant have permissiveness. When someone comes in and says, Oh, your room is so quiet, I know Ive been successful.”
—Rose Hoffman, U.S. public school third-grade teacher. As quoted in Working, book 8, by Studs Terkel (1973)
