Glover's Rock

Glover's Rock is a large granite glacial erratic in Pelham Bay Park, The Bronx, New York.

The giant rock has a bronze plaque commemorating the American Revolutionary War Battle of Pell's Point. Colonel John Glover reputedly stood on the rock and watched the British forces land during the battle. There is currently a salt water marsh and meadow near the rock which is believed to be the same one described by George Washington.

Famous quotes containing the word rock:

Amongst the learned the lawyers claim first place, the most self-satisfied class of people, as they roll their rock of Sisyphus and string together six hundred laws in the same breath, no matter whether relevant or not, piling up opinion on opinion and gloss on gloss to make their profession seem the most difficult of all. Anything which causes trouble has special merit in their eyes.
    Desiderius Erasmus (c. 1466–1536)
