Global Sources Magazines - History

History

This magazine series owes its origins to Asian Sources, an export trade magazine first published in 1971 by Trade Media Ltd in Hong Kong. It presented facts, analyzed developments, and anticipated market trends for its readership.

As trade trends evolved from 1973 onward, editors decided to produce separate editions based on major trade products, starting with Asian Sources Electronics. From this title other editions were introduced over the years, such as Asian Sources Timepieces, Asian Sources Electronic Components and Asian Sources Computer Products.

In 1997 the company established a new corporate identity to reflect its global span of business, and all its publications now carry the name “Global Sources.”

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Social history might be defined negatively as the history of a people with the politics left out.
    —G.M. (George Macaulay)

... that there is no other way,
That the history of creation proceeds according to
    Stringent laws, and that things
Do get done in this way, but never the things
We set out to accomplish and wanted so desperately
    To see come into being.
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)

The history of reform is always identical; it is the comparison of the idea with the fact. Our modes of living are not agreeable to our imagination. We suspect they are unworthy. We arraign our daily employments.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
