Global Organisation Of The Catholic Church
The Catholic Church is organised in a worldwide hierarchy under the pope, and the Roman Curia.
Patriarchs are the heads of some of the Catholic Churches other than the Latin Church. Some senior Roman Catholic archbishops are also called Patriarchs. Archbishops and Bishops administer individual dioceses as successors of the twelve apostles. As such they are responsible for the appointment and supervision of parish priests, and the oversight of all church affairs within their diocese.
The Catholic Church is organised into local hierarchies within each nation, or group of smaller nations. National Conferences of bishops co-ordinate local policy within each nation.
As of 17 April 2011, the ecclesiastical jurisdiction statistics is as follows; 13 Patriarchates, 2 Major Archdioceses, 542 Metropolitan Archdioceses, 80 Archdioceses, 2,179 Dioceses, 47 Prelatures, 10 Territorial Abbeys, 17 Apostolic Exarchates, 8 Ordinariates, 36 Military Ordinariates, 84 Apostolic Vicariates, 38 Apostolic Prefectures, 10 Apostolic Administrations, and 9 Missions 'sui juris'.

“Much of what Mr. Wallace calls his global thinking is, no matter how you slice it, still globaloney. Mr. Wallaces warp of sense and his woof of nonsense is very tricky cloth out of which to cut the pattern of a post-war world.”
—Clare Boothe Luce (19031987)
“It is because the body is a machine that education is possible. Education is the formation of habits, a superinducing of an artificial organisation upon the natural organisation of the body.”
—Thomas Henry Huxley (18251895)
“Carlyle is not a seer, but a brave looker-on and reviewer; not the most free and catholic observer of men and events, for they are likely to find him preoccupied, but unexpectedly free and catholic when they fall within the focus of his lens.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“Jesus: Senor, the widow Gomez delivered a son this morning, a boy.
Guthrie McCabe: Bully for the widow Gomez.
Jesus: But Senor, it has been more than a year ago since Senor Antonio Gomez has been buried in the church house.
McCabe: Well, theres some men ya just cant trust to stay where you put em.”
—Frank S. Nugent (19081965)
