Glenn Gould Prize
The Glenn Gould Prize is an international award bestowed by the Glenn Gould Foundation in memory of noted Canadian pianist Glenn Gould. It is awarded every third year to a living individual in recognition of his/her contributions to music and communication. Since 2011 it is awarded every second year.
Prize laureates receive a purse of C$50,000. Since 1993, they are given the responsibility of naming the recipient of the City of Toronto Glenn Gould Protégé Prize. The protégés receive C$15,000, and both winners and protégés receive a small bronze sculpture made by Canadian sculptor Ruth Abernethy. Additionally, a portrait of each laureate is displayed in Toronto at the Glenn Gould Studio of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
The jury consists of renowned personalities from around the world. The prize is funded by The Glenn Gould Prize Fund, which was established by courtesy of Floyd S. Chalmers, with contributions by numerous administrations and foundations, including the Government of Canada. The main provider was the Canada Council, and since 2000 it is the foundation itself.

Famous quotes containing the words gould and/or prize:
“A separation situation is different for adults than it is for children. When we were very young children, a physical separation was interpreted as a violation of our inalienable rights....As we grew older, the withdrawal of love, whether that meant being misunderstood, mislabeled or slighted, became the separation situation we responded to.”
—Roger Gould (20th century)
“Far and away the best prize that life offers is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.”
—Theodore Roosevelt (18581919)
