Glencoe Ski Area

Glencoe Ski area (also known as Glencoe Mountain or the White Corries ski centre), near Glencoe, Highland, is the oldest ski area in Scotland. The ski area has seven lifts on Meall a' Bhuiridh, which serve a variety of ski runs.

The car parking area lies below the normal snow line, so the skiing is reached via a low level access chair lift, although it is occasionally possible to ski all the way down to the car park. The access chair lift also runs in summer for tourists and walkers.

The ski centre is located on a very isolated stretch of the A82 amongst some of the most dramatic scenery in the UK, roughly 15 miles (24 km) from Glencoe village. Public transport is infrequent and the ski centre is around 1 km from the main road. It is possible to do a day trip by bus from Glasgow (to the ski road end).

Accommodation is available in the nearby villages of Glencoe and Ballachulish.

Famous quotes containing the words ski and/or area:

The goal for all blind skiers is more freedom. You don’t have to see where you’re going, as long as you go. In skiing, you ski with your legs and not with your eyes. In life, you experience things with your mind and your body. And if you’re lacking one of the five senses, you adapt.
Lorita Bertraun, Blind American skier. As quoted in WomenSports magazine, p. 29 (January 1976)

The area [of toilet training] is one where a child really does possess the power to defy. Strong pressure leads to a powerful struggle. The issue then is not toilet training but who holds the reins—mother or child? And the child has most of the ammunition!
    Dorothy Corkville Briggs (20th century)
