Glasgow Corporation Tramways

Glasgow Corporation Tramways were formerly one of the largest urban tramway systems in Europe. Over 1000 municipally-owned trams served the city of Glasgow, Scotland with over 100 route miles by 1922. The system closed in 1962 and was the last city tramway in Great Britain (prior to the construction of new systems in the 1990s).

Famous quotes containing the words glasgow and/or corporation:

I was always a feminist, for I liked intellectual revolt as much as I disliked physical violence. On the whole, I think women have lost something precious, but have gained, immeasurably, by the passing of the old order.
    —Ellen Glasgow (1873–1945)

It is truly enough said that a corporation has no conscience; but a corporation of conscientious men is a corporation with a conscience.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
