Technology
Glance is designed as a web-based, cross-platform remote desktop application that utilizes several levels of redundancy to avoid disconnections. These are both physical and electronic; Glance's net traffic travels through two geographically distinct colocation centers, one in Massachusetts and another in California.
The main technologies Glance utilizes are Java and ActiveX; the program automatically chooses which protocol to use based on the needs and capabilities of the host system.
In addition to working within Windows and Linux environments, Glance has garnered much praise for its functionality with Mac OS-based systems
In October 2008, Glance released a new version of their client. This version, Glance 2.4, allows the Glance account holder to either show their screen to others, as they had been able to do previously, or view their guest's screen. This additional mode essentially allows Glance to function as a remote support program, and has been promoted as such.

Famous quotes containing the word technology:
“Our technology forces us to live mythically, but we continue to think fragmentarily, and on single, separate planes.”
—Marshall McLuhan (19111980)
“If the technology cannot shoulder the entire burden of strategic change, it nevertheless can set into motion a series of dynamics that present an important challenge to imperative control and the industrial division of labor. The more blurred the distinction between what workers know and what managers know, the more fragile and pointless any traditional relationships of domination and subordination between them will become.”
—Shoshana Zuboff (b. 1951)
“One can prove or refute anything at all with words. Soon people will perfect language technology to such an extent that theyll be proving with mathematical precision that twice two is seven.”
—Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (18601904)
