Jain Temples
This place once had a huge Jain population. But due to natural calamities and constant attacks from the sea, people migrated to other safer places in the interior. Many Digambar Jain families from Bhavnagar are originally from Ghogha.
There are three notable temples. The Digambar Jain temple has a very old idol belonging to the fourth century with the Mulnayak as Chandraprabhu. This temple is also known as Chopra Mandir. The miraculous idol of Bhagwan Nemi Nath is also installed here. The second temple is Gujarati Mandir with Lord Adinath as its mulnayak (installed in the fifteenth century). This ancient idol is supposed to be more than 2500 years old and is without inscription and symbol. In this temple is a beautiful metallic 'Sahastra Kut' Chaityalaya (1008 idols carved on it) installed in the fifteenth century. The third temple is called Dandia Temple with Mulnayak Bhagwan Adinath, a very beautiful white idol in Padmasana posture. All the temples are in the main city of Ghogha.

Famous quotes containing the word temples:
“Goddesses never die. They slip in and out of the worlds cities, in and out of our dreams, century after century, answering to different names, dressed differently, perhaps even disguised, perhaps idle and unemployed, their official altars abandoned, their temples feared or simply forgotten.”
—Phyllis Chesler (b. 1941)
