Safety
According to the "Annual Road Safety Report 2011", produced by the International Transport Forum, the number of overall road fatalities had decreased by almost 70% between 1990 and 2010. While autobahns were not specifically mentioned in the report, motorway data is presented, with the fatality total between 1990 and 2010 decreasing from 1470 to 430 deaths. Excessive speed was cited as "a factor in more than 39% of fatal accidents and about 26% of serious injury accidents in 2010" and the relaunch of a motorway-based safety campaign, entitled "Runter vom Gas!" ("Down with speed!"), is also mentioned in the report.

Famous quotes containing the word safety:
“To emancipate [the slaves] entirely throughout the Union cannot, I conceive, be thought of, consistently with the safety of the country.”
—Frances Trollope (17801863)
“There is always safety in valor.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“A lover is never a completely self-reliant person viewing the world through his own eyes, but a hostage to a certain delusion. He becomes a perjurer, all his thoughts and emotions being directed with reference, not to an accurate and just appraisal of the real world but rather to the safety and exaltation of his loved one, and the madness with which he pursues her, transmogrifying his attention, blinds him like a victim.”
—Alexander Theroux (b. 1940)
