Georgia State Route 5 - Route Description

Route Description

The route starts where AL 48 ends at the Georgia-Alabama state line north of Ephesus in Carroll County, and initially runs east, until it turns northeast in Whitesburg. SR 5 then cuts in a diagonal through Douglas County, crosses I-20, and heads through Douglasville. Continuing northeast, the route crosses into Cobb County, and heads through Smyrna and Marietta to its concurrence with I-575, which takes it all the way through Cherokee County, heading through Canton on its way north.

As SR 5 crosses into Pickens County, it turns slightly northwest, bypasses Jasper, and turns back in a northeasterly direction into Gilmer County, heading through Ellijay and on into Blue Ridge in Fannin County. There, the route turns north and heads to its northern terminus in McCaysville.

Famous quotes containing the words route and/or description:

A route differs from a road not only because it is solely intended for vehicles, but also because it is merely a line that connects one point with another. A route has no meaning in itself; its meaning derives entirely from the two points that it connects. A road is a tribute to space. Every stretch of road has meaning in itself and invites us to stop. A route is the triumphant devaluation of space, which thanks to it has been reduced to a mere obstacle to human movement and a waste of time.
    Milan Kundera (b. 1929)

The type of fig leaf which each culture employs to cover its social taboos offers a twofold description of its morality. It reveals that certain unacknowledged behavior exists and it suggests the form that such behavior takes.
    Freda Adler (b. 1934)
