Taylor has all his life been an avid sports participant and spectator. He has had a life long interest in sports. He played Varsity football at McMaster University obtaining three Varsity letters on the team that won the Inter-Collegiate Championship(1957) having an undefeated season under the quarterbacking of Canadian Hall of Fame member Russ Jackson. The total team was inducted into the McMaster Hall of Fame. He also played varsity hockey at McMaster and Osgoode Hall Law School. He was a Canadian cross-country high school champion runner in1956. He played on the first Masters Barrie old-timers’ hockey team (1975) and inducted to the Masters Hockey Hall of Fame. He has coached and managed amateur hockey teams including the organization of schedules, transportation of teams and the purchase of equipment. He has been a financial sponsor of amateur soccer and hockey teams as well as individual young athletes.

Taylor has played numerous recreational and organized sports from baseball, water polo, swimming, track, tennis, football, mountain and road biking, a certified SCUBA diver, and hockey the latter he continued on at university and law school but presently he restricts himself to downhill skiing, road biking and golf usually in some competition mode. He was an Olympic Torch bearer participant in the cross Canada Run in 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. He has assisted his two sons who have competed locally, throughout Canada and the USA both at amateur sports and professional sports from hockey, soccer, skiing to motocross. In these sports he has coached, managed, assisted teams, attended dispute hearings, created organizations, refereed and consulted as a legal advisor.
