Edwin Caldecott was a nemesis of Jim Branning, from his days as a boxer. Edwin goaded Jim into one final match, which his wife Dot and granddaughter Sonia Jackson had advised him against. On the day of the fight, Jim was geared up to fight Edwin, but when Dot appeared at the community centre, Jim was distracted and Edwin took the advantage to get first the punch in, knocking Jim flat. Dot decided to let Jim think he'd won afterward.

Famous quotes containing the word edwin:
“Conscience was the barmaid of the Victorian soul. Recognizing that human beings were fallible and that their failings, though regrettable, must be humoured, conscience would permit, rather ungraciously perhaps, the indulgence of a number of carefully selected desires.”
—C.E.M. (Cyril Edwin Mitchinson)
