Geographical Constituency - Hong Kong

Hong Kong

The 5 geographical constituencies consist of the following:

  • Hong Kong Island
  • Kowloon West
  • Kowloon East
  • New Territories West
  • New Territories East

On 21 January 2010, 5 pro-democracy lawmakers resigned from the Legislative Council in order to trigger a by-election in the 5 geographical constituencies. They claimed that the by-election can serve as a de facto referendum on universal suffrage and the abolishment of functional constituencies. This is known as the Five Constituencies Referendum.
