Genesis Walker - Character Creation and Development

Character Creation and Development

Gennie Walker was created by series producer Kathleen Beadles, although by the time her first episode aired on 1 April 2008, Anita Turner had taken over from Beadles. Theatre actress Sian Reese-Williams was cast in the role and started filming in the week beginning 3 March 2008. The character was described as "not your typical Dingle" and Turner said that "we’ve got some exciting storylines planned" with Gennie in "for a real culture shock when she meets her biological family".

In an interview in May 2008, Anita Turner said that "the character could be brilliant and it's about her finding that inner Dingle". Turner said that Gennie has "really hidden depths – it’s more about her future in Emmerdale, rather than her past".

Famous quotes containing the words character, creation and/or development:

If there be no nobility of descent in a nation, all the more indispensable is it that there should be nobility of ascent—a character in them that bear rule, so fine and high and pure, that as men come within the circle of its influence, they involuntarily pay homage to that which is the one pre-eminent distinction, the Royalty of Virtue.
    Henry Codman Potter (1835–1908)

As a natural process, of the same character as the development of a tree from its seed, or of a fowl from its egg, evolution excludes creation and all other kinds of supernatural intervention.
    Thomas Henry Huxley (1825–95)

Women, because of their colonial relationship to men, have to fight for their own independence. This fight for our own independence will lead to the growth and development of the revolutionary movement in this country. Only the independent woman can be truly effective in the larger revolutionary struggle.
