Army
The United States Army now uses a condensed form of orders, with three basic instructions. Previously it used the same Eleven General Orders as the Marines.
- I will guard everything within the limits of my post and quit my post only when properly relieved.
- I will obey my special orders and perform all my duties in a military manner.
- I will report violations of my special orders, emergencies, and anything not covered in my instructions to the commander of the relief.

Famous quotes containing the word army:
“What is called common sense is excellent in its department, and as invaluable as the virtue of conformity in the army and navy, for there must be subordination, but uncommon sense, that sense which is common only to the wisest, is as much more excellent as it is more rare.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“The army is always the same. The sun and the moon change. The army knows no seasons.”
—Frank S. Nugent (19081965)
“Why not draft executive and management brains to prepare and produce the equipment the $21-a-month draftee must use and forget this dollar-a-year tommyrot? Would we send an army into the field under a dollar-a-year General who had to be home Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays?”
—Lyndon Baines Johnson (19081973)
