General Holmes Drive

Named for a distinguished Australian military officer who died in action during the First World War General Holmes Drive is a major road that runs through Brighton-Le-Sands and Kyeemagh in New South Wales, Australia.

General Holmes Drive starts from the The Grand Parade in Brighton-Le-Sands, continues into the suburb of Kyeemagh, running along Cook Park, over the Cooks River (Endeavour Bridge), past Sydney Airport. The main traffic route then becomes Southern Cross Drive and General Holmes Drive continues towards the airport terminals to Joyce Drive. Most of General Holmes Drive is part of the 110 kilometre Sydney Orbital Network.

Traffic runs in three lanes in both directions through Kyeemagh, becoming four lanes after the M5 East Freeway junction. The M5 East can only be accessed southbound, and traffic joins General Holmes Drive northbound.

Famous quotes containing the words general, holmes and/or drive:

In effect, to follow, not to force the public inclination; to give a direction, a form, a technical dress, and a specific sanction, to the general sense of the community, is the true end of legislature.
    Edmund Burke (1729–1797)

“No, no; the real name,” said Holmes sweetly. “It is always awkward doing business with an alias.”
    Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859–1930)

They shoulda called me Little Cocaine, I was sniffing so much of the stuff! My nose got big enough to back a diesel truck in, unload it, and drive it right out again.
    Little Richard (b. 1932)
