Career

Tomlin's clubs included Gillingham, Windsor & Eton, Aylesbury United, Staines Town and St. Albans City, prior to joining Brentford. He failed to break in to the team, despite a man-of-the-match performance against Northampton early in the season, and his contract was terminated by mutual consent on 30 January 2007. He joined Conference South club Fisher Athletic in February 2007.

Tomlin joined League One club Yeovil Town in July 2008, signing a two year contract and saying, "This is my third chance at league football and I am not going to let it slip this time." He finished his first season at Yeovil as leading goalscorer with nine goals. On 16 July 2010, he signed a new contract with Yeovil.

On 29 June 2010, Tomlin did a u-turn on his verbally agreed contract with Yeovil and instead signed a three-year deal for League One newcomers Dagenham & Redbridge. On 8 July, Yeovil manager Terry Skiverton said in an interview that he had previously withdrew the Yeovil offer saying: "With Gavin I made him an offer, he accepted it and was then umming and ahhing over it so I withdrew it and told him to go elsewhere."

On 12 January 2012 he signed for Gillingham on loan until the end of the season.

On 2 July 2012 Tomlin signed for Southend United on a one-year contract.
