Charles R. Wood Park

In December 2010, it was reported that Lake George Association, Lake George Land Conservancy and other organizations had acquired the land and were demolishing the site in order return the area to wetlands to filter water draining into Lake George, at a cost of up to $12 million.

In April 2012, it was announced that foundation of Gaslight Village's late founder, the Charles R. Wood Foundation, contributed $750,000 towards a $1.8 million nature park, to be called Charles R. Wood Park. Along with offering picnic and recreational space, the area will treat storm water from NY 9N via a settling pond and a constructed wetland.

Famous quotes containing the words wood and/or park:

Instead of calling on some scholar, I paid many a visit to particular trees, of kinds which are rare in this neighborhood, standing far away in the middle of some pasture, or in the depths of a wood or swamp, or on a hilltop.... These were the shrines I visited both summer and winter.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

The label of liberalism is hardly a sentence to public igominy: otherwise Bruce Springsteen would still be rehabilitating used Cadillacs in Asbury Park and Jane Fonda, for all we know, would be just another overweight housewife.
    Barbara Ehrenreich (b. 1941)
