History

The mall opened in 1968 with anchors Rich's and JCPenney. There were the other traditional mall stores of the time. This mall faced competition from the beginning with several other malls in DeKalb County, mainly Northlake Mall. The Rich's also had an automotive center similar to most Sears of the time. In 2008, major renovations were planned. Sears would have a store on the back side of the mall and Dillard's would be on the front side near the street. Amazing Rooms was to move to the back side of the mall and let Belk use its space. That year they had their second "shutdown" that scared the stores trying to be a part of the mall and expand it. Only on the back of the mall a few stores were added. There was a renovation, but small. In 2010, they couldn't make it money wise and shut down for two weeks then reopened after they found the money.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

It is remarkable how closely the history of the apple tree is connected with that of man.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

No one can understand Paris and its history who does not understand that its fierceness is the balance and justification of its frivolity. It is called a city of pleasure; but it may also very specially be called a city of pain. The crown of roses is also a crown of thorns. Its people are too prone to hurt others, but quite ready also to hurt themselves. They are martyrs for religion, they are martyrs for irreligion; they are even martyrs for immorality.
    Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874–1936)

When the landscape buckles and jerks around, when a dust column of debris rises from the collapse of a block of buildings on bodies that could have been your own, when the staves of history fall awry and the barrel of time bursts apart, some turn to prayer, some to poetry: words in the memory, a stained book carried close to the body, the notebook scribbled by hand—a center of gravity.
    Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)
