Gaius Julius Caesar II

Gaius Julius Caesar II, son of Gaius Julius Caesar I, married to Marcia, sister of the consul Quintus Marcius Rex. He was the father of Gaius Julius Caesar III, Sextus Julius Caesar III and Julia Caesaris, wife of Gaius Marius. He may be the Caesar who died suddenly one morning in Pisae, Italy, while putting on his shoes, but this is unlikely (given that this is cited to have happened during a praetorship - an office that he never held, being a senatorial backbencher all his life); other sources attribute his death to a growth in the throat and a special type of cancer.
