Expectations were high for "Funky Dory" to match the same success as Stevens' first solo single "Sweet Dreams My LA EX", which peaked at #2 on the UK Singles Chart. However, partly owing to a limited amount of promotion, continually strong airplay for "LA Ex" and a release in the pre-Christmas rush, the single sold only 8,000 copies in its first week in the UK, reaching #26 and fading away quickly thereafter. In total, the single spent four weeks on the UK charts and sold 20,000 copies.
