Fudge was a small unincorporated community in Fulton County, Kentucky, United States, approximately 4 miles southwest of modern day Hickman. A small town in the 1850s and 1860s with a population of less than 50, Fudge was almost completely abandoned after a few years after settlers determined that the land was inarable. Poor drainage and salinity on the site rendered the soil inadequate to support sustained farming cycles. The earth beneath the site is rich in limestone, with collapsing (slowly dissolving) caverns beneath. However, a few residents have remained, and they constitute the overwhelming majority of the people who write in to the "NFL Mailbag" column on SB Nation, written by Louisville, Ky., resident Jon Bois.
Unsubstantiated reports of its use as a backdrop for several music videos have circulated on the internet—specifically regarding the Flaming Lips song “Chrome Plated Suicide.” No evidence suggests that any music video was ever made for this song. As of July, 2011, no photos of this location are available online, nor have any coordinates been proposed.
Famous quotes containing the word kentucky:
“The head must bow, and the back will have to bend,
Wherever the darkey may go;
A few more days, and the trouble all will end,
In the field where the sugar-canes grow.
A few more days for to tote the weary load,
No matter, t will never be light;
A few more days till we totter on the road:
Then my old Kentucky home, good-night!”
—Stephen Collins Foster (18261884)
