Frost Diagram - Reference Point

Reference Point

On a Frost diagram the element is generally set as the reference point at 0 volts.

The lower a point is on the Frost diagram the more stable it is. This indicates the most stable oxidation state for that element. Points found high in the upper-left (when the x-axis is arranged so that high positive oxidation states are closer to the origin and "high" negative oxidation states are found further along the positive x-axis) indicate an element that will act as a strong oxidizing agent at that oxidation state.

Famous quotes containing the words reference and/or point:

In writing these Tales ... at long intervals, I have kept the book-unity always in mind ... with reference to its effect as part of a whole.
    Edgar Allan Poe (1809–1849)

Where there is no style, there is in effect no point of view. There is, essentially, no anger, no conviction, no self. Style is opinion, hung washing, the calibre of a bullet, teething beads.... One’s style holds one, thankfully, at bay from the enemies of it but not from the stupid crucifixions by those who must willfully misunderstand it.
    Alexander Theroux (b. 1940)
