French Response To Hurricane Katrina - French Victims of Katrina

French Victims of Katrina

As of September 9, no French citizen was reported killed by the hurricane. Assistance was given by the team of the consulate of New Orleans to 40 French citizens.

Two missions were working:

  • One mission from Atlanta was working in Biloxi, Gulfport and Mobile, visiting homes to locate French citizens.
  • Another was in New Orleans, attempting to contact any French citizen still there.

Furthermore, teams were in San Antonio and Dallas, Texas to locate French citizens among the refugees. Four physicians were available.

The French consulate in New Orleans was temporarily moved to Lafayette.

Famous quotes containing the words french and/or victims:

It was not reason that besieged Troy; it was not reason that sent forth the Saracen from the desert to conquer the world; that inspired the crusades; that instituted the monastic orders; it was not reason that produced the Jesuits; above all, it was not reason that created the French Revolution. Man is only great when he acts from the passions; never irresistible but when he appeals to the imagination.
    Benjamin Disraeli (1804–1881)

Whether in the field of health, education or welfare, I have put my emphasis on preventive rather than curative programs and tried to influence our elaborate, costly and ill- co-ordinated welfare organizations in that direction. Unfortunately the momentum of social work is still directed toward compensating the victims of our society for its injustices rather than eliminating those injustices.
    Agnes E. Meyer (1887–1970)
