Who Lies Buried There
A Swedish Royal Knight; a veteran of the Seven Years' War and the War of the Caps, Fredrik Granatenhjelm (May 1, 1708 - December 13, 1784), lies buried there. Despite the name the monument has assumed in mind of people because of the square and compasses decorations, whether Granatenhjelm himself was a member of the Freemasons is not proven even if some historians have been led to assume it, perhaps out of weight from the popular designation of the monument. It is known for certain that he was posthumously made an honorary member of the quasi-masonic Walhalla-orden.

Famous quotes containing the words lies and/or buried:
“War has always been the great wisdom of all those spirits who have grown too inward, too deep; its healing power lies even in the wound.”
—Friedrich Nietzsche (18441900)
“Why should the generations overlap one another at all? Why cannot we be buried as eggs in neat little cells with ten or twenty thousand pounds each wrapped round us in Bank of England notes, and wake up, as the Sphinx wasp does, to find that its papa and mamma have not only left ample provision at its elbow but have been eaten by sparrows some weeks before we began to live consciously on our own accounts?”
—Samuel Butler (18351902)
