Life

Born in 1885 in London, he left school at 15 for a job as an office boy. He attended night-school, and joined the Fabian Society.

In 1912, he took a job as secretary-manager of the Howard Cottage Society in Letchworth Garden City, founded by Ebenezer Howard. In 1919, Howard purchased land for a second garden city at Welwyn, and Osborn moved with him to become Company Secretary and Estate Manager.

He left the company in 1936, and devoted the rest of his life to promoting the garden city movement.

Famous quotes containing the word life:

    He has not learned the lesson of life who does not every day surmount a fear.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

    Every sign by itself seems dead. What gives it life?—In use it is alive. Is life breathed into it there?—Or is the use its life?
    Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889–1951)

    A native health and innocence
    Within my bones did grow,
    And while my God did all his glories show,
    I felt a vigour in my sense
    That was all spirit: I within did flow
    With seas of life like wine;
    I nothing in the world did know
    But ‘twas divine.
    Thomas Traherne (1636–1674)
