Fishing

The Fraser River is known for the fishing of white sturgeon. A typical white sturgeon catch averages between 30 to 100 pounds. A huge white sturgeon weighing an estimated 1,100 pounds and measuring 12 feet, 4 inches was caught and released on the Fraser River in July of 2012. It is believed to be the biggest freshwater fish ever caught on rod and reel in North America and possibly the oldest.

Famous quotes containing the word fishing:

From time immemorial the men of the town have been famous seamen, and have divided their energies between fishing and hating the English.
    Willa Cather (1876–1947)

A rat crept softly through the vegetation
Dragging its slimy belly on the bank
While I was fishing in the dull canal
On a winter evening round behind the gashouse
Musing upon the king my brother’s wreck
And on the king my father’s death before him.
    —T.S. (Thomas Stearns)

Fly fishing may be a very pleasant amusement; but angling or float fishing I can only compare to a stick and a string, with a worm at one end and a fool at the other.
    Samuel Johnson (1709–1784)
