Frank W. Cox High School - Music Honors

Music Honors

Cox high school is well known for its music program. The band is currently under the direction of Mike Lane. The 2012 scholastic year will be his seventh at Cox. During his time at the school, the band has received many honors. The Wind Ensemble (higher band) at Cox has yet to not earn straight superiors at assement in his tenure. Their marching band is also widely praised. They recently competed in the 2011 USSBA (now known as U.S. Bands) Group II open national championships, and placed 1st overall with a score of 95.738, with captions in visual performance, overall effect, and colorguard. The band is also a back-to-back state championship program, winning the 2010 USSBA group I open Virginia state championships, as well as the 2011 USSBA group II open Virginia state championships. The band will be entering Group III next year, and will be performing "5 day 4cast" by Frank Sullivan.

Famous quotes containing the words music and/or honors:

The time was once, when thou unurged wouldst vow
That never words were music to thine ear,
That never object pleasing in thine eye,
That never touch well welcome to thy hand,
That never meat sweet-savored in thy taste,
Unless I spake, or looked, or touched, or carved to thee.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

    My heart’s subdued
Even to the very quality of my lord.
I saw Othello’s visage in his mind,
And to his honors and his valiant parts
Did I my soul and fortunes consecrate.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
