Ritter received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a master degree in Psychology from Carnegie Mellon University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Artificial Intelligence and Psychology from the Carnegie-Mellon University. Ritter has received study fellowships from the United States Air Force Office of Scientific Research, and the European Science Foundation's program on Learning in Humans and Machines.
