Francisco Javier Cordero (born May 11, 1975) is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher who is currently a free agent. He has served as the closer for several teams and is one of baseball's active saves leaders. On June 1, 2011, Cordero recorded his 300th career save with the Cincinnati Reds, becoming only the 22nd player to reach that mark. He ranks second all-time on that list among active players.
Cordero is frequently referred to by his nickname, CoCo, which is a combination of the last two letters of his first name and the first two letters of his last name. Cordero throws a hard fastball—capable of reaching the upper 90s, and also has an excellent slider that he can throw for strikes early in the count, and which he uses as his out pitch. He attended Colegio Luz Arroyo Hondo High School in the Dominican Republic.
Famous quotes containing the word francisco:
“Mr. Wiggam, I want you to change the policy of The Clarion. I want you to write a story I should have written myself long ago. I want you to tell the people of San Francisco that no city can exist without law and order. Write a story about that flag, write about what verifies and brings a promise of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. There are some people in this town who dont seem to know that. Let The Clarion tell them.”
—Ben Hecht (18931964)
